Almond Milk
This is a delicious, easy and quick almond milk recipe that you can whip up at anytime and does not contain any artificial preservatives or additives.
Ingredients
- 200g (7oz/ 2 cups) almonds
- 1.2l (5 cups) filtered water
- Optional extras: 1 tsp vanila extract, a pinch of salt and 1-2 tbsp maple syrup/honey.
Instructions
- Soak almonds in 200g of water for a minimum of 3 hours. You can also soak them overnight in the fridge
- Rinse the almonds well, then add to a blender with 1l (4 cups) filtered water, and blend until smooth
- Strain through a nut milk bag and then pour into a jug and keep it in the fridge.
- Optional extras: 1 tsp vanila extract, a pinch of salt and 1-2 tbsp maple syrup/honey.
Notes
This is such an easy recipe to make. Store-bought nut milks often contain a long list of artificial ingredients to preserve the milk and prevent it form separating. They are often very watery and taste artificial. This recipe contains two ingredients only, almonds and milk. You can also use the same recipe and replace the almonds with cashews. Cashews are delicious and have a naturally sweeter taste, however pushing the milk through the nut milk bag is more tedious.
If you prefer your milk to have a sweeter taste, you can add a tbsp of maple syrup. You can also add a pinch of salt to help preserve the milk for longer and vanilla extract for a vanilla flavour. I personally have tried all the options, but find the plain nut and water mixture to be the best and lowest in carbohydrates and sugar.
