
Cinnamon Oats, Blueberry & Chia Seed Porridge
A delicious, hearty and nutritious oat porridge to start your day right with good quality protein, fruit and carbohydrates.
Ingredients
- 40g (1.4oz or 1/2 cup) wholegrain rolled oats (gluten-free)
- 125g (4.4oz or 1/2 cup) almond milk
- 125g (4.4oz or 1/2 cup) boiling water
- 1 tsp maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla essence
- 1 tsp Ceylon cinnamon
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 60g (2.2oz ro 1/2 cup) blueberries
- A pinch of sea salt
Instructions
- Place the oats, milk, boiling water, cinnamon and salt in a small pot, bring to boil, then turn down the heat and simmer for 2-3 minutes.
- Turn off the stove, add the blueberries and chia seeds, and let the oats soak for 3 minutes.
- Serve.
Notes
Although oats are gluten-free, they may be processed in factories where gluten-containing grains are also processed, so for anyone following a gluten-free diet, it's best to chose gluten-free oats. Oats contain beta-glucans, a type of soluble fibre that can lower cholesterol and blood glucose, acts as a prebiotic, serving as a food source for beneficial gut bacteria, which in turn produce short chain fatty acids that serve as a food source to our cells lining the digestive tract, contributing to a healthy gut lining and lowered inflammation.
